A day tour to Chengde is perhaps not enough to cover all there is to the city that sits 225km Northeast of Beijing. However, as a visit to the Jinshanling Great Wall and the Chengde Mountain Resort, 2 locations synonymous with the name of the city itself, it will suffice. This is not a long post by any means, so I do encourage you, if you are planning a trip to China, to educate yourself with other sources. But, in the case of the two locations mentioned, I do have things to speak about.

Continue reading “Chengde – Emperors’ Escape”A detour from the hustle and bustle of the cities of China, Gubei provides one of the most calming and soothing stays you’ll likely find in China, so long as you’re not standing on the Great Wall of China, which I will elaborate on later. A town just 2 hours away from Beijing, Gubei is best known for being situated just below a portion of the Great Wall of China. However, there’s more to Gubei than it’s fancy VIP.

Continue reading “Gubei Water Town – Tranquil Preservation of Tradition”Although consisting of only 1 day of our 8D7N trip to China, Tianjin is still part of our trip, hence will still be talked about. One of the 4 municipalities of China, along with Beijing, Shanghai and Chongqing, Tianjin has a lot of history behind it. Although not as well known in China, it’s period under foreign influence has made it a very interesting slice of China.

Continue reading “Tianjin – Colonial Past, Diversity in China”Beijing, the crux of my trip and the capital of China both in the past and in the present. Home to most of China’s famous landmarks and the very location the People’s Republic of China was founded. Beijing is, more often than not, the city most consider to be the go-to when visiting China, and for good reason. So much to see, so much to learn, so much to eat and so much to immerse yourself in, Beijing is where it all stands and where it all once stood.

Continue reading “Beijing – Past and Present, Capital of China”I’ve always dreamed of travelling to Yunnan, China, especially Shangri‑La. A few years ago I had flights and accommodation booked for Kunming/Shangri‑La, but then COVID hit and the trip was cancelled. This year I really wanted to go on a long trip to China – so Yunnan it is.
That being said, I am too busy and too lazy to plan out a free and easy itinerary and do comparisons between agencies and check out reviews etc, I decided to book a package tour that would cover all the places I wanted to see without the stress.
This will be the main post explaining the trip’s details.
Continue reading “8D7N Yunnan: Kunming, Dali, Lijiang & Shangri-La”Today, we said goodbye to beautiful Dali and began our journey back to Kunming. As much as I loved the laid-back vibe of Dali, it was time to slowly make our way back to where this adventure began.
Continue reading “Day 7, 8 : Dali – Kunming – Singapore”Today, after breakfast, we said goodbye to Shangri-La. Our destination today was Dali, but instead of going straight there, we detoured to Shaxi Ancient Town – a very pretty, little quiet ancient town on the historic Tea Horse Ancient Road, a caravan route that once connected Yunnan with Tibet and beyond.
Continue reading “Day 6 : Shangri-La – Shaxi Ancient Town – Dali”Today took us deep into the mountains surrounding Shangri-La, to one of the region’s most spectacular and lesser-known destinations – Balagezong Scenic Area. If you’re planning a visit to Shangri-La and love nature as much as I do, this is a place you really shouldn’t miss.
From the moment we arrived, the views were so breathtaking that they left both my husband and me completely in awe.
