Cameron Highlands – Misty Mountains

Located 800-1600m above sea level, Cameron Highlands is located just off Kuala Lumpur, home to waterfalls, gardens, tea plantations and organic vegetable hotpots (We’ll get back to that.)

A much more calming alternative to Genting Highlands, most of Cameron Highlands is situated in the mist-covered mountains, ensuring that you are almost always cool. Here’s what we did in our 3 days 2 nights stay in Cameron Highlands

Day 1 – Arrival in the Misty Mountains

Stop number 1 of our road trip, Cameron Highlands. Known for many things, the few main reasons we visited were the tea plantations, the weather, and the organic vegetable hotpot. On average, depending on the traffic, getting to Cameron Highlands starting from Singapore will take you a good 7 or so hours without stoppage time. If that’s not your fancy, Malacca also makes for a good stop point on the way up to Thailand.

Waking up at 4am and setting off for Cameron Highlands, the traffic at both customs were manageable, allowing us to get into Malaysia and set off on the North-South highway as the sun was still rising. One thing I will always love about being on the North-South early in the morning is the mist. It always feels like you can’t see more than a bit in front of you, and with the lack of cars on the road and the occasional sun sky, it makes for a beautiful road experience.

On our way up to Cameron Highlands, we came across a waterfall park which was closed on that day. Seems like it would’ve been a good visit (Reference)

By the time we got up the mountain, it was about 12-1 pm and we were pretty hungry. Before making our way to Copthorne Hotel, we stopped at the newly constructed Cameron Centrum for lunch, specifically Pepper Lunch. This also happens to be the most posh Pepper Lunch I think I’ve ever visited

Also.

Disclaimer: This is not AI

On to our hotel! Copthorne Hotel@Cameron Highlands. General thoughts about the hotel, its quite nice actually, the rooms we stayed in were more so apartments with a living room and 2 bedrooms and 2 bathrooms. Generally, it is not super well maintained, the bedsheets/couches are not super clean. All in all, it was decent to be honest. Heres some pictures of the view

The entire day was more of a rest day after the first leg of our road trip, dinner was settled at an organic vegetable hotpot place in Brinchang (Reference) before we had a walk around and went back to the hotel

veggie goodness….

Day 2 – Travel around the Highlands

Day 2 was when we started to actually have a look around, visiting 3 different attractions.

I’d say the Boh Tea Plantations are a must-visit out of all of them. Not only is the tea and food there genuinely good, but it is something very special you won’t see very often. Its some opportunity to buy good tea! (They sell!)

Here are some pictures we took at each place

We settled dinner for Day 2 with, yet again, an organic vegetable hotpot. Again, another must-do at Cameron Highlands and I will stand by this is eating organic vegetable hotpot/steamboat. As silly as it sounds, it genuinely tastes so different. The corn is sweeter, the vegetables are more flavourful, its life-changing along with many other things.

Funny thing about this hotpot place, 4-5 years ago, my mom and dad visited this EXACT same hotpot place when they were going to Koh Lipe. We were only able to come back and recreate the photo by recognising the menu in the back

Ended the day with some football on the TV, a reoccurring theme in this road trip. Which match you may ask? Liverpool 4-3 Fulham. 10pm lined up on the couch watching the match on the small TV, it was limbs watching all 4 of those Liverpool goals go in, had to resist shouting because nothing was soundproof over there

Can you imagine, a cold and chilly living room with unsanitary couches and a small ass TV watching all 4 of those bangers go in? Limbs, football heritage might I add, what a game, probably the best one I watched this season (4-4 Chelsea ManC was more of a pain)

I wouldn’t say there’s much to do in Cameron Highlands compared to a lot of other places in Malaysia like Ipoh, Malacca, or George Town, but it is a place you should visit. It’s breezy, the food is delicious and it’s catered to nature lovers. You could chalk off 1 day to do everything there is to do if you wanted to. Some things we didn’t do were…

Definitely a few things to tick off your list if you’re visiting Cameron Highlands!

Conclusion – Off to Hat Yai!

All in all, you could probably experience all of Cameron Highlands in a one-day stop. However, I think 3 days 2 nights was good enough to bask in the weather and visit everywhere we wanted to go without it feeling rushed.

If you’re going to Cameron Highlands, here’s some things to take note of

  • The sheep sanctuary is NOT meant for some children, they will cry, trust me.
  • Organic vegetable hotpot, must have
  • Boh Tea plantation, must go
  • Unpopular opinion, but I think Cameron is COLDER than Genting, bring a jacket, please.
  • Copthorne is decent choice of hotel, not the highest of class but not bad either.
