Day 1 : Singapore – Kunming

Day of departure. Hooray I am finally going on a holiday!

Although the flight is at 12.40pm, we were told be meet up with the tour leader at the airport at 10am. Group tours above 20 paxes like this one will be assigned a tour leader. They will be the one to help you with the check ins, arrangements etc. With the check-in done, we got our boarding passes and headed off. First of all, who can resist taking photos with the sunflower fields display at the departure hall. Reminded us of our Mae Hong Son bike trip where we saw the REAL sunflower fields over hills.

Flight was smooth – a quick 4 hours flight to Kunming. A sleep, an in-flight meal and we are almost there. We touched down at Kunming and were picked up by our China tour guide KK before heading straight to dinner at Fu Zhao Lou which is supposedly famous for their steam pot chicken.

There’s more dishes which was served after but I didn’t take a picture of. First, I am too busy eating, and second, I am not one of those that takes photos of all the food before eating. Very much the opposite. Once food is served, forget about pictures.. hah

And I must say, another upside of getting a package tour is you don’t have to think of where and what to eat, you just eat whatever that is served on the table. You also don’t have to worry about the quality and quantity of the food. Quality is definitely guaranteed if they ae to be included in the itinerary. Hilariously, one of our tour group members counted and there’s like 13/14 dishes served all together! Not just this meal, every single meal we had for the next 7 days had a min of 10 and above dishes. Wow…. with the variety to try and taste different dishes, you are bound to find one out of the many that you will like. I am a fan of Chinese cuisines and I am not a fussy eater soo everything is yum…..

After dinner, it’s back to the hotel. Accommodation tonight is at Horizon Hotel Yunnan where we will only be staying for one night.

The location is fantastic. We were told there’s a very lively night market/food street just about a short 10 mins walk from the hotel. We dropped off our luggage back in our room and went straight out to explore the nightlife.

Unfortunately, it started raining heavily mid way through. So, we bought some beef skewers, beers and headed back to the hotel room to rest for the night.
