Crowne Plaza Staycation! (May 21-22)

Last Saturday on May 21-22, we decided to book a staycation at Crowne Plaza, a hotel near Jewel Changi Airport. Another holiday! The room was a pool access room and was linked to a link bridge to Jewel. This is what happened over the weekends!

Our trip and arriving at Crowne Plaza

Some context, it was the last week of school before our June holidays, so we decided to take some time off, AGAIN! We did just go to Lexis, but it’s been a while since we’ve gone to a staycation, so we’re at it again.

Because our dad was off in Thailand, we had to do all the travelling by public transport. We arrived at Northpoint to return our library books (Cuz they were due) and eat some lunch. For lunch, we ate some salmon (My favourite!) at one of the Japanese restaurants to fuel up. After lunch, we hopped onto 858 at the bus stop outside Northpoint to take our long journey to Changi Airport. We all fell asleep on the bus, so the trip wasn’t that long, but we had finally arrived after possibly the longest bus ride I’ve been on

After a bit of navigation, we found out the hotel was at the 3rd floor, so we took the elevator up. But not before my first picture of the post!!!

Not much, but hey a Swensens

We did not eat Swensens that night. sigh. But we did arrive at the hotel!

We checked in at the main counter where the service was very nice. The view was pretty cool too but it looked like it was going to rain. This was a problem as we were only gonna stay here for 2 days and if its rained, high chance we wouldn’t get a chance to swim. However, we decided to put that past us and made it up the elevator to the room. Just want to add on, the card we needed to enter our room was wood, which is very friendly to the environment, good job guys!

The room

We were in quite a rush to get to our room as it was already 4pm, but when we got to our level, we were treated to amazing views! I would be taking photos of them later of course. Then, we made it to our room.

Epic

The room had a TV mounted on the wall opposite to the 2 beds, and these 2 chairs which were extremely comfortable to sit on. The bathroom had a shower and a bathtub, which had not been seen since the Westin staycation! The room contained a door straight to the pool

Its beautiful…. Brings a tear to my eyes. The swimming pool was dotted with small platforms containing palm trees which lead to hallways in the water! There we also jacuzzis in between the hallways, but they were out of commission. We jumped into the pool straight of the bat, and that was when the lightning started…

Lightning and the thunder

And it started raining. We fled back to our room to hide from the showers, and we turned on the TV to some Nat Geo. This was pretty disappointing as that means that we wouldn’t get to swim as much as I hoped, so that’s too bad.

While eating, we pondered on the question of dinner. There were 2 obvious options, we go to Jewel, or we get room service. We scanned the QR code to check out the room service and. If you’re reading this Crowne Plaza, no offence but, it was expensive. $20 for Char Quay Teow, and a further $29 for Fish and Chips. We decided we were past room service, and decided to make our way to Jewel’s Burger King.

Now there’s a common theme with my pictures, the sky is always on my side, and this is no different. The sky at 6:18pm was looking stunning, as if someone ripped through the sky with a sword and found pink. It was a straight line of colours like it came from a movie, absolutely breathtaking to say the least. Crowne Plaza got them VIEWS.

We left the hotel and continued on towards the link bridge, which contained many travelator and a cool “Back to The Future” vibe.

yes. It is slanted. And yes. I am not happy

Anyways, we arrived at Jewel and, unsurprisingly, every single restaurant had a queue. Hot tomato was lined up all the way along the railing, Shake Shack was about as crazy as you would imagine it, and Din Tai Fung had a line that could stretch to space. Luckily for us, we stumbled upon a Burger King downstairs, so we bought some food and savoured their onion rings and sundae. Best in the world if I do say so myself.

Jewel!!

Some context, Jewel is our airports shopping mall. The longest man-made waterfall called the rain vortex stands tall in the middle, reaching up to heights of 40 metres tall. Now, if you know me at all or even seen this blog, you’ll know my favourite photo is one of Jewels’ Rain Vortex itself.

Slight flex

So coming back here was on my to-do list for a whileeee now. Here are some of the better photos out of the bunch that I took

Now to further enlighten you, Jewel puts on a lightship for their Rain Vortex every night at 8, 9 and 10pm. It just so happened to be 7:45pm when we reached the very top… Here we go

The lightshow

I would plonk the video our mother recorded right about now, but the file size is too big, so sad. I do have some photos of the lightshow though, so here we go…

I have so much to say. First of all, the lights were simply stunning, patterns were terrific. But the ambiance was insane, there was music beating in the background, and everything felt so intense. The lights were flashing left and right!

One thing about being a photographer and taking photos like this. You’re usually busy catching pictures and experimenting with angles that you often miss out on the show. BUT IT WAS STILL AMAZING, NO LESS. I can’t even explain it to you because it’s an experience you need to experience for yourself.

Party Timeeeee

Now we have a tradition during ANY family holiday. After we’ve settled dinner, we would always go to a supermarket to buy some chips and chat and do stuff. Without fail, this has always happened, it’s a party where we stay up till 12am. Tonight was no different; before the light show, we visited the nearby NTUC to get some Pringles and drinks (we didn’t want an entire bag of lays since its only three people). After our light show we made our way back to the hotel and tried to find something cool to watch.

After a moment of indecision, we would be watching the new big anime, Spy X Family. Now I’m extremely late to the trend cause I don’t watch that much anime ( I can’t wait to get bombarded by anime fans for that one) but my sister does! Our mother doesn’t watch much Japanese anime, mostly Chinese anime, if that counts, so we were going in blind.

Well not exactly. Im pretty sure almost everyone who indulges in anime knows who Anya is already.
I will be skipping the party though, it was quite long and there wasn’t much to talk about, just laughing at the show!

Day 2

Our reckoning has arrived, its time for the holiday to end. SADGE. It seemed like we barely spent any time there.

Anyways, we had booked a breakfast buffet as always, so we woke up at around 7.30 and made our way down to eat some really good bacon. No photos cuz I’m a dingus and didnt take any, but oh my god was the food good. I ate some scrambled eggs, bacon, sausage and good ol’ hashbrowns with some apple juice. The eggs were fluffy, the bacon was straight up insane, to say the least the food was delicious.

After our breakfast we made our way back to the hotel and decided. “Hey, there’s still some time left, how about we take a swim.” We changed into our swimming costumes and jumped in, this time without interruption from rain. We finally explored the jaccuzis and all the other secret parts in the pool, before hopping out, drying, showering and leaving for good.

Bye Bye hotel, welcome back normalcy

Since we checked out at 12pm sharp, we decided we would go take our lunch before going anywhere else. A&W was full, no surprise there, so we hopped to the food republic to get some Chicken Rice.

This post was a lot of pictures and personally I felt the writing wasn’t that good, but I hope you enjoyed it. Another staycation in the books! The staycation was generally amazing, and the pool access was so fun as always. We had an amazing time and the Burger King dinner may or may not be still in my head. God the ice cream was so good. Would 100% recommend you to come if you can, especially with friends/family, maybe I’ll even come back….

Next up on the blog, possibly expect a trip to Thailand, which was where my dad was during this staycation, and I may or may not be taking another trip to somewhere in the June holidays. Stay tuned and stay safe, IM OUT!
