YH’s TIBUT – DSLR time + Iconic locations

Hello and welcome to YH’s TIBUT, standing for “Yong Hong’s Things I’ve been up to”! This is a post that I will commonly write whenever its been about a month or a few months to recap what I’ve been up to and show you some pictures I’ve taken. I will still right independent posts when required but usually, these will be the posts you will see. I didn’t want every post like this to be named “Photo Collages”, so I created a name for it. Let’s get into it then.

Getting straight into the important news, I’m happy to announce I now have a DSLR! My true potential has been unlocked with high-quality zoom and focusing. Over the next few weeks, I’ll probably be revisiting past locations and going to new ones. That AND I’m going to Penang during the June holidays, so expect one for that.

Batam – Kota Industri

A while back, in god knows when, we took a trip to Nongsa, Batam Island. Usually, this would warrant a special post, but I was too busy crying so here it is. We stayed at Montigo resorts for a few days (3) and had quite a bit of fun; here are some highlights

Somewhere – Somewhere idk where?

I’m going to be totally honest, I have no idea where I am in these pictures, but they look genuinely nice so I’ll show em off

Golden Mile Complex – Little Thailand closing down.

As you may know, Singapores “Little Thailand”, AKA The Golden Mile Complex has closed down or is soon closing down. This place is full of culture and memories, staying up for 45 years as a landmark in Singapore. However, despite it being such a staple in Singapore, I’ve never been there before, so I went to go snap some photos (and also eat some fried bananas)

Sungei Buloh – Revisiting

When your sister needs to present about cultural sites in Singapore and need photos of the place, you hire a guy whos taken photographs before and is relatively decent at it, me!

P.S: Mr Yong if you’re looking at this, hello! I appreciate you coming, I always found it funny how we both have Yong in our names

Istana Open House – Once in a lifetime (Not really)

Around the start of May, the Istana opened up to the public. There were so many people there I may have bumped into you when I was there (watch out for the midget snapping photos with a small ass phone) The Istana was at least 20x bigger than I thought it would be and I loved it

However, my phone has 1 weakness. Green. Every single time it wayyyyy oversaturates green. I apologise to your eyes in advance. (Wish I had my DSLR then)

Newly bought DSLR!

For those who don’t now, it was my birthday recently and as a gift, I finally got the “peak” of photography equipment, a DSLR!!

To be exact, I got a Canon EOS250D, great for beginners and pretty light too. This basically changes the game, giving me enhanced zoom quality, the ability to manually adjust my focus, and of course the ability to adjust the light, how moving subjects look, background blur etc. A DSLR gives you all of the control you could ever want over your photos, so of course I took it for a spin at the following 3 places.

DSLR Revisit – Jewel Rain Vortex

Of course, the first place I had to go which was not overseas to compare the quality of both photos was Jewel, where my best photos were taken. But of course, I needed some food first, so we went to Changi Village to get some food before going to Jewel

I have an intervention, Plane Spotting! If you are good at this game, I give you an honorary star. Name the planes below.

Plane Numero 2
Plane Numero 3

Now for Jewel, this was the first place I had on my mind as I had to ensure that my DSLR wasn’t a waste of money and that the quality had improved. At first it wasn’t too obvious, but the next few revisits will show it was more than worth it

DSLR Revisit – Haw Par Villa

The best thing about a DSLR is the amount of control you get over your photos, specifically background blur and the ability to change the amount of light you get in your photos. Coming to Haw Par Villa on this day was specifically challenging as the sun was blazing in the sky. This meant that if one place was sheltered and one place wasn’t, it would be hard to get the right light as one would almost always be showered in the sun. The ability to Manual Focus was really cool tho

Also. I got this really kickass photo. This is what happens when you are the main character

DSLR Revisit – GBTB/SBTB

Went to Satay by the Bay for some dinner. Saw a few birds, got some cool macro shots too. I was surprised that a lens like mine could even do macro

FOOTBALL!

After watching the world cup, my dad had a resurgence of interest in football and roped me in to watch it too, and now I can’t stop talking about it around him. He probably hates it but I absolutely love watching this.

In case the one person who is reading this actually wants to know what football club I support, I’m about to disappoint you in 3, 2, 1…. Manchester City, and I think Messi the goat too cause thats how that works. I play Fifa23 too, its pretty fun. WATCH THIS

Tilt your head a bit

Im the best

Conclusion

Ok thats it lads. Expect more of these coming soon, I need to leave school so I can go play Fifa23. Goodbye
